This 9-day journey combines the freedom of a self-guided road trip with select guided experiences along the way. You’ll drive through Portugal at your own pace, exploring its most captivating cities and regions.
Begin in Lisbon, where you can wander through historic neighborhoods, enjoy scenic viewpoints, and uncover the city’s rich past. Along the route, you’ll stop in charming towns and cultural landmarks, with guided tours included at key sites to enrich your experience.
Your adventure concludes in Porto, famous for its striking architecture, riverside atmosphere, and world-renowned Port wine. Designed for comfort, culture, and discovery, this itinerary offers the perfect balance of independence and expert guidance.

Day-by-Day Description
Day 1 | Arrival in Lisbon
Welcome to Lisbon, the vibrant capital of Portugal! Upon arrival, your private driver will transfer you to your hotel for check-in.
You have the rest of the day to explore the stunning city center, enjoy a meal at a local restaurant, or relax in your comfortable room.

Day 2 | Lisbon Highlights
After breakfast, meet your guide for a panoramic walking tour of Lisbon.
You'll visit iconic attractions, starting at Restauradores Square with its obelisk commemorating Portugal's independence from Spain in 1640. Take a funicular to Bairro Alto for views of Mouraria and São Jorge Castle, then stroll through the charming Chiado neighborhood, known for its old cafés and shops.
Next, explore Baixa, including Rossio Square, where you'll learn about the city's reconstruction after the devastating 1755 earthquake. Continue to Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest district, to admire the Se Cathedral and Commerce Square.
After the tour, return to your hotel with the rest of the day free. In the evening, consider joining an optional tour

Day 3 | Self-Guided Day Trip: Sintra from Lisbon
Just 30 minutes from Lisbon, Sintra is a fairytale town filled with palaces, gardens, and castles. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it has long been a retreat for Portuguese royalty and nobility.
On this self-guided trip, you will drive (or take the train) from Lisbon to Sintra and explore at your own pace. Don’t miss the colorful Pena Palace, perched high above the town, and the mysterious Quinta da Regaleira, famous for its gardens and initiation well.
Stroll through the historic center, visit the National Palace of Sintra, and if time allows, head to the Moorish Castle for sweeping views over the region.
After exploring Sintra’s highlights, you can return to Lisbon on your own schedule. (Entrance Tickets Included)

Day 4 | Fado Show with Dinner
On your final evening in Lisbon, enjoy a special night out with a traditional Fado dinner experience. Savor authentic Portuguese cuisine while listening to the soulful sounds of Fado in an intimate local venue—a perfect way to end your stay in Lisbon with music, culture, and heartfelt emotion.

Day 5 | Trip to Algarve Region
Today after breakfast you will drive to Algarve region, specificaly to Albufeira, one of the most beautiful coastal towns in Portugal. Driving instructions and Hotel location will be provided prior to the trip. GPS will be in your rented car.

Day 5 | Arrival in Albufeira
Welcome to Albufeira, upon arrival to your hotel you can park your car and check-in. The remaining day is free, we recommend to explore the area on your own or relax at the beach.

Day 6 | 2.5-Hour Benagil Caves & Dolphin Watching (Group tour)
Look for dolphins and hidden caves on a half-day dolphin watching cruise of the Algarve from Albufeira. Bring your swimsuit and towel, as the activity includes a stop for a swim.
Marvel at the rock formations, and access areas that other vessels can’t reach. A marine biologist will be on board to provide all necessary information about these wonderful creatures. Be aware that as dolphins are wild animals, sightings can not be guaranteed.

Day 7 | Trip to Coimbra
Today in the morning, after breakfast your journey continues, today you will travel to Coimbra. The travel information will be provided. (Self-Driving)

Day 7 | Arrival in Coimbra
Upon arrival in Coimbra, you will check in to the hotel. Rest of the day is free to explore thee area on your own.

Day 8 | Self-Guided Tour: University of Coimbra
Explore the historic University of Coimbra at your own pace with entrance tickets included. Begin at the Paço das Escolas, once a royal palace and now the heart of the university since 1537.
Visit the stunning Biblioteca Joanina, home to 60,000 rare books and considered one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. Descend to the Academic Prison, once used to discipline students.
Continue to the Chapel of São Miguel, with its gilded Baroque altars and 2,000-pipe organ, and step inside the grand Sala dos Capelos, the university’s ceremonial hall.
End your visit at the Via Latina colonnade, where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Coimbra before leaving at your own pace.

Day 10 | Porto Highlights Tours (Guided Tour)
After breakfast, meet your guide for an exhilarating walking tour of Porto's main landmarks. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, located along the Douro River, boasts one of Europe's oldest town centers.
Your tour begins at the iconic Lello Bookshop, the oldest in Portugal. You'll also admire key monuments, including São Bento Railway Station, Porto Cathedral, and São Francisco Church.
After the tour, return to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 11 | Day trip to Douro Valley (Self-Guided)
Drive through the breathtaking Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site, at your own pace. Start in Amarante, where you can visit the picturesque bridge and the São Gonçalo Church.
Continue to Régua, the heart of the Port wine region, where you’ll enjoy a wine tasting and lunch at Quinta do Seixo, surrounded by spectacular vineyard views.
End your trip in Pinhão, known for its traditional railway station decorated with blue azulejos. After exploring, return to Porto on your own schedule.

This is your last day with us, your driver will pick you up at the hotel for your transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
